Homeschool Classes at Yellow Bird Studio

Calling all Tampa Area homeschool families! We are excited to announce that we have expanded our early afternoon classes for your children at both our locations this year.

You know that feeling: After a long day of covering traditional subjects like language, math, history and science, little to no time, or parental energy, is left for art instruction and creativity. That's where having a resource like Yellow Bird Studio is so valuable to our very large Tampa Bay homeschool community.

We have a fully stocked arts and crafts studio and experienced instructors who know how to get even the least interested kids engaged in creative arts.

From painting, to sculpting, to collage and sewing, our goal is to expose homeschoolers to a wide variety of creative materials and teach them their proper care and use in a real studio setting. And, because our classes are more "doing" than "sitting", there is lots of time for socialization and making friends.

The benefits of including creative arts as part of your curriculum are numerous! Among them are creative thinking skills, executive function skills, problem solving skills, attitudes like perseverance, openness to new ideas and perspectives, and serving as an outlet for processing their internal world.

We offer two classes for Homeschoolers. Art Masters is a class that focuses on introducing children to the world and work of real artists, both historical and contemporary, from a wide variety of cultures and countries, including local artists! Then, the students create art that is inspired by the materials or vision of the artists to explore how it resonates with them personally. Last year, we learned about the vibrant highway paintings of Grant Haffner, the fun artwork of Jasper Johns and the funny birds from Anna Blatman among many others. This year, we have plans to explore many new artists and use the same materials they use: painting, sculpting, textiles and other mixed media.

If you have a particularly creative child who would prefer to come up with their own ideas, then our Art Lab class is the ideal one for him or her. In our very popular Art Lab class, the studio is theirs to use to make any kind of art that inspires them that day. They can choose to paint, sew, sculpt, make, draw and even more, while our studio teachers are there to facilitate the process and give guidance when each student needs it.

We meet the criteria for the state scholarships for you to get reimbursed for your tuition and will happily help with that as well.

If you are interested in a free trial class, take a look at each studio's schedule and choose the class your are interested in and email that studio to reserve a spot.

We keep classes to 10 children only, so we have some spots left on the days the classes are offered.

And if you are interested in any of the other classes that are not labeled for homeschoolers, like our sewing and drawing classes, you are welcome to try those out as well!
